"Kaya" meaning "pure, home, resting place, the healer".
Kaya Street is the creation of singer, songwriter and Bristol based producer Kaya.
Starting off as a studio based collaborative project featuring musicians from across the globe (South Africa/Spain/UK) Kaya Street is focussing 2020 on bringing its music out the studio and into the live setting with shows encompassing full live bands, original sing-jay sets and low fi acoustic sets.
Dark, uplifting and atmospheric, the Kaya Street sound is immersed in a genre hopping blend of neo-soul, dub reggae, trip hop, african, psychedelia, indie, folk and electronica and deals with themes of lust, grief, ancestry, madness and political resistance in a time of rising nationalism.
As a newly formed group Kaya Street have gained immediate attention within Bristol having a DJ slot on one of the main stages at 2018's St Paul's 50th Carnival celebration and members have previously played at Boardmasters, Shamabala, Boomtown and supported artist such as The Specials, The Abyssinians, and Julian Marley.
